Rap Music – Are You in it For the Money Or Power?

Rap Music - Are You in it For the Money Or Power?Hip hop has taken some big strides forward. We have many artists who are multi-millionaires. I think that is a great achievement. However the greatest achievement in hip hop is yet to be realized. In the beginning the movement was not based on monetary value if it was it would not have made it this far. We were independent when hip hop started out. We thought our own thoughts and enjoyed what it meant to be free.MCs made sense in their lyrics and often use them to right the wrongs of society. We used the lyrics to bring attention to our many diverse points of view. Was there a fall from grace? Is hip hop dead as many have indicated? How can it be dead when those who say that it is dead still have the spirit of the deep insights of the 80s and 90s era. Those who said it was dead still long for the resurrection of an era probed with free thought.

Freedom so diverse that no one could even tell the direction hip hop was going. No one could describe the eclectic styles or amalgamation of talent. Hip hop has never died nor has it been ruled by anyone who assumes they are in charge of the media or record labels. Singularity is none existent in this genre. Diversity is here where you look for it.

I will not waste time with gripes about how everything in hip hop has changed. I will not indulge you by mentioning the programming, the lack of talent, the ignorance or the fact that soul-less humans put some of the worst rappers in the world on television. Who in their right mind would do that? Why would I waste my time describing the restructuring that has taken place by record labels to promote bull shit rappers who rarely get rich. Things change but they stay the same. If an artist wants to achieve recognition and sales then he definitely can do it. Even without radio play some artists have a strong presence. If you are in rap for the money and fame however you could be in it for the wrong reason.

Our art form made sense in the past. Do not associate it heavily with those who are on the videos with funny voices and looking totally stupid. That is a dumb down mechanism. In some cases they do not even act like that. Sadly there are many that do. The field of hip hop is primarily Black or to be politically correct African-American. This is the class of people who it does the most damage to. Humans including the Black race themselves over time forget who they are and actually believe they are like those fools in the videos. That of course is another story.

Avoid letting yourself be fooled by the videos of the rap stars with all the cars. They want you to lust for the money, cars and sex. Anyone who does anything for that reason alone first would meet with failure. Hip hop is an internal drive to connect with others not a love for material pleasures. When you stick with intangible power of hip hop you can be very successful. It is as intangible as the air and hard to hold like water. Hip hop is not about the money first. Don’t look for it on T.V. or radio, find it in you and keep it in you.
